Over time, we have had numerous enquiries from various organisations and individuals who have been wanting to find information on Village Halls in Northumberland, but who have found finding information about the various halls and community buildings (around 180 of them) dotted around the county difficult to come by.
Community Action Northumberland (CAN), with the support of the West Northumberland Community Buildings Consortium (WNCBC) and the North Northumberland Village Halls Consortium (NNVHC), proposed the idea of creating a website portal where all halls in the county could be listed and accessible in one place, to make it easier for people to find them. This would potentially benefit all those halls in the county who sign up to it, and will also provide the opportunity for halls who do not currently have a website to have a clean, modern and stylish website, with easy admin.
Thanks to successful applications to the National Lottery Community Fund and to the Sir James Knott Trust for project funding, the portal is now ready for halls to register and try out. Thanks also to that funding, the first year of membership is free to halls in both consortia. The portal had a ‘soft’ launch to coincide with ACRE’s #VillageHallsWeek and its official launch to the public will take place at the end of March.
